More about
Fritjof Capra
I
found Capra's
Tao of Physics in
1985, at a time when my life was in a complete reorientation. In this situation,
Capra's books
Tao of Physics and
The Turning Point
reflected and emphasized the turning point in my own life.
Tao of Physics hit
me like a lightning. The impact of the book on my psyche and my personal
evolution was comparable only to the discovery of the
I Ching and
Taoism,
as well as the writings and teaching of
Françoise Dolto
that I equally discovered in 1985. But today, having read all of Capra's
publications, I think that his best book is
The Hidden Connections.
Reading Capra, eventually, I found all my intuitions confirmed, and all
the criticism that already as a child and school boy I had voiced against
Western society and education, intelligently and comprehensively put together
in a structural framework for the purpose of creating a new reality,
a reality that will be holistic and emotionally as well as erotically
intelligent. In fact, it was at that time that I devoted myself to
serving humanity unconditionally to help creating this new reality, and
to contribute to this mission voluntarily and with a transpersonal motivation.
Fritjof Capra received his Ph.D. from
the University of Vienna in 1966
and has since taught and researched theoretical high-energy physics at
various European and American universities. He is currently researching
at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory
and lecturing at the
University of California at Berkeley. As well as publishing many
technical research papers, Dr. Capra has written and lectured
extensively about the philosophical implications of modern science.
While living in London in the 1970s he wrote
The Tao of Physics (also a Flamingo
book), which became an international bestseller and has been translated
into a dozen languages.
